And so it is that lions are quite fragile. And dangerous too, as witnessed by the fact that sparks come shooting out of their backs, as also happens with their fellow felines. To locate the injury on the dragging leg, I laid a handkerchief down like a wisp of smoke, and discovered a single thorn in it. “There’s the injury. And here come the flames, like bolts of lightning.” A perfectly round gem the size of a chestnut was glimmering as it burned – it was the Sign of the King. This is why he could tolerate work that was not befitting of a king. Although it seemed to emit flames, the gem was, after all, cold as it was clear, and through it you could see many tiny windmills faintly groaning like bees and flying in the air. That night, the lion had a dream. It stood on one leg, atop a pyramid-like mountaintop. The lion who said, “I believe the donkey will return” was a happy lion.
